The dining room ceiling is done!

It looks so nice, and the floor above it feels more secure than it’s probably felt in decades, and I just couldn’t be more pleased. Also, I’ve finally found a use for a lovely vintage (maybe antique?) chandelier I bought years ago, so I’m happy as a clam.

We still need to repaint the room, and it will really brighten things up. But for now, progress is progress!
And, in even MORE good news, we got the results of Graham’s blood test, and he is NOT a carrier of the recessive genetic condition I mentioned in my previous post. This means that, even though I’m a carrier, Baby Girl is not at risk. I’m just incredibly relieved and grateful.
So, a good day all around, and lots to smile about and be thankful for.
Beautiful ceiling and beautiful news.

Thank you! I’m so glad to finally have a spot for it! It’s been waiting for, like, eight years.

I bought it along with a pink Hoosier cabinet and was just absolutely certain that, even though I didn’t have spots for them at the time, both pieces belonged with me. I’m happy to say, they both have places now, and even in the same room. 🙂

Oh great news about Graham! And the dining room looks awesome! What BM colour will you paint? Maggie

We were so relieved when we got the results! Definitely a big weight off of our shoulders. I think for paint, we’ll do white on the walls and Benjamin Moore Williamsburg Wythe Blue on the trim. It will tie in with the kitchen that way and make the space feel more cohesive.

Yeah, I’m a little intimidated, but I think it’ll be fine. We’ve got a great crew, and we already have most everything picked out. And it’s going to look so much better when it’s done, which is the best part. 🙂

Thank you! I really have to credit our head contractor for the idea. I would have never thought to use the fence boards from around the property, but it worked so well!

I love the pink Hoosier! I actually bought it at the same time as the chandelier, even though I didn’t have a place for either of them. I love that now, they’re in the same room. Feels right. 🙂

that ceiling is amazing. Was it difficult to do? i am still working on my cabin and wanted to use shiplap ( with the raw wood showing, not the painted kind) but the first 2 boxes were really expensive and ive been looking into just straight up wood planks, maybe repurposed style. I am just scared to try fitting them together.

Thank you! It didn’t look too difficult, watching our contractors work on it. I think the more time-consuming part was planing down the wood. We used fence boards from our property, and it took a little while to get them all in usable shape. If you live somewhere with barns or fences, you might check around and see if anyone has any boards they need to replace and are trying to get rid of – usually they’re priced a lot cheaper. Seems we can always find stuff like that around here.
