She loves the snow as much as I do.
Annie is an almost eleven-year-old Australian Shepherd. She’s been with us since she was just a little puppy.
Though I would not recommend an Aussie to an inexperienced dog owner, watching her experience the world is one of the great pleasures of my life. She’s smart, spunky, friendly, curious, quick to learn, and easily the most energetic of all of us. She loves Graham best, and she’s happiest when they go for walks on the path along the mill race.
It snowed Sunday morning, and while I sat by the fire with a cup of coffee and a book, Graham took Annie out for some playtime and a snow day stroll.
It snowed almost as much in six hours as it did over the course of two days last week, and it was just beautiful.
I’m glad Graham got some good pictures before it melted. Which it did, by Sunday evening. But as always, I enjoyed it while it was here to enjoy. And Annie did, too.
It looks like we’ve got more winter weather to look forward to this week, though there’s apparently a chance for some significant ice, so, we’ll see. I was worried, back in the beginning of December, that we’d see a winter with barely any snow. How lovely to be wrong.

She was such a cute puppy! She looked like a little bear. I should definitely get a video of her romping around in the snow! She just loves it. And I love to watch her. Just pure joy. A good reminder, I think, to slow down and enjoy the little things. 🙂

The only dog we ever had who loved snow was Katrina, our Siberian Husky. She also thought I was a sled when she had the leash on. 🙂

Oh, my goodness! I imagine that was a challenge to deal with! Annie’s always loved the cold. Sometimes it’s difficult to get her to come inside when the temperature hovers at around freezing. I don’t know if that’s normal for Aussies or not, but she certainly seems to be a happy little winter dog. 🙂

Well I just learned we have another thing in common [besides our mutual respect for blogging]. I also have an Aussie – love him to pieces! I actually call him ‘it’s NOT my dog!’ as he was gifted to my son during college who then ‘gifted’ him to me – temporarily – when he moved to NYC. His last words were, “mom, can you watch Kirby just for a few months while I get settled up there and find a dog friendly apartment?” That was eight years ago, but honestly now I can’t give him up. But I live in Orlando so he’s never seen snow, although he loves to sit by the pool and take in the sunshine. Keep writing great stories!

Oh, I love that! I think Kirby is officially your dog now. 🙂 I’m sure he certainly thinks so. Or rather, perhaps he thinks that you are officially his human. Annie claimed Graham and me within hours (especially Graham), and she gets jealous if we pay too much attention to other dogs or humans, and sad when we leave the house without her. Aussies are such wonderful dogs. Annie used to love to swim, but she’s a little more cautious about the water these days. She enjoys a good sunny day, though, and she’s very adept at finding the sunniest spot to take a nap.
