Look at this little guy!

I’ve written before about how I find bugs fascinating. Graham snapped a few pictures of this one – just molted – yesterday, and I just had to share.

Last year, we had a giant brood of cicadas in the region, and boy were they…annoying. And different from our usual set, too.

Neat to watch, and cool to think about, but generally loud, and ever-present. I caught one of them landing on me every ten seconds.
No brood this year, but one of the surest signs of summer around here is the gentle (and sometimes not so gentle) hum of the cicadas. Like fireflies in the evening and passing storms in the afternoon, it’s really just not summer without it.
Very nice! I do like to listen to the sound of the cicadas in the evening.

Indeed..rather like feeling like I am “home.” So thank you for sharing Graham’s beautiful images; it reminded me of pleasant moments. Last night as I was mowing the front yard, my music was hearing the cicadas.

Love it! When I was growing up, we had a porch swing, and I used to sit and just listen. Good memories. 🙂

Hi Katie, I grew up in New England and When I moved to Texas I didn’t know what that sound was I just knew I loved it because it’s a sound connected to the South. 🙂

Oh, I love that! I bet those New England summers were much cooler than summers in the South, though. Could use a little of that right now!

Surprisingly the summers heat was very humid which made it seem even hotter. At the risk of repeating myself, I love the images you use.

Thank you! 🙂 And humidity is the worst. It’s been really hot and humid around here this week, and I’m so over it.
