I wanted a wintry winter.
Well, seems I might get it in spring.
It’s a funny, frustrating thing,
that we can’t rely on Virginia’s weather,
fickle and peculiar as it is.
But at least there’s this:
Foxes in the meadow,
deer under the willow,
velvet gray skies and
a fire’s crackling glow,
and warmer days ahead.
(I hope.)

I enjoyed the poem and like that photograph of the deer in shadow.

Thank you! Graham took that one a while ago. It’s hard to get a picture of the foxes looking at the camera, but the deer are pretty good about it.

I will see your deer and raise you a raccoon. Our raccoons will stand up in a line and look at you! The deer will gaze at you as long as you are looking here. It is almost like they are saying, Excuse me, I am eating–do ya mind?

I need to see a picture of those raccoons! That’s so funny. 🙂

Nowhere on earth can you rely on the astronomical calendar anymore. All the old folk adages and proverbs about seasons and weather have become useless.

I agree. Virginia has always been tricky with its weather, but this feels like a whole new level.

Beautiful poem! We have also had a crazy weather year in Pennsylvania, not a lot of snow yet, but it does seem like we make get late winter showers.

Thanks! Yeah, it’s definitely colder here in Virginia than it has been for the whole month before this. We shall see. It would be nice to get one good snow, but at this point, I’m okay with just getting on to spring.

Hi, seems you got it, thanks. Oh yes, I woke up to snow this morning! 🙂

No measurable snow here this winter, unfortunately. Maybe we’ll have better luck next year. On the plus side, the flowers are blooming already, and they’re beautiful. 🙂
